Health Sciences Research Day

Call for Abstracts for Poster Presentations

The University of Missouri's Health Sciences Research Day, held Thursday, November 13, 2014, provides a forum for original research and educational innovations by undergraduate, medical, nursing, and health professions students, as well as predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees working with faculty in the schools of medicine, nursing, and health professions.

Students are encouraged to present the results of their research at Health Sciences Research Day, held each fall at MU's medical school. This day-long symposium is filled with poster presentations by undergraduate, graduate and professional students, with prizes awarded to the three best presentations in each student category. In addition, special Deans' Awards will be presented for the most outstanding research conducted by trainees from the schools of nursing, health professions and medicine. Holders of academic titles are not eligible for this competition, except through mentoring roles.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is 5 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2014. Abstracts must be submitted via email to the School of Medicine Office of Research at: taylord@health.missouri.edu.

You may refer to the 2012 Health Sciences Research Day abstract book for guidance on formatting abstracts (copies available in the School of Medicine Dean's Office).

The poster sessions will be judged separately for two categories of students. Within each category, there will be two sections as follows: (a) Clinical Science (involving human participants), and (b) Basic Science. Therefore, the categories for separate judging will be as follows:

Category I - Undergraduate students and medical students (including summer research fellows)

  • Section A: Clinical Science (involving human participants)
  • Section B: Basic Science

Category II - Graduate Students/Postdoctoral Research Fellows, Medical Fellows and Residents

  • Section A: Clinical Science (involving human participants)
  • Section B: Basic Science

Please indicate in your email submission the most appropriate judging category and section (Category I or II, clinical or basic) when submitting abstracts.

Based on poster judging, three awards will be given to those posters in each section (total of 12 awards) that receive the best scores.

  • Second Prize - $250

In addition, special Deans' Awards will be given for the most outstanding research conducted by trainees from the schools of nursing, health professions, and medicine, respectively.
